After the Freedom Act: RAI's independence and refoundation
Free admission upon registration
The implementation of the Media Freedom Act, which will require EU member states to protect media independence and prohibit any form of interference in editorial decisions, raises the question of the nature of Rai: from an instrument of parliamentary majorities and minorities to an independent subject "in a functional and editorial sense".
Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano, and Stefano Balassone, President of Articolo Quinto, stimulate the opinions of Giuliano Ferrara, Monica Maggioni, Michele Serra and Annamaria Testa about a RAI, from August 8, 2025 independent, in implementation of Article 5 of the EU’s Freedom Act (which is an executive, not optional, rule). There are questions about what will be at stake in terms of cultural health, historical and political awareness of Italy, as a european country, and what can be done concretely so that this great opportunity is seized by politics both for the centrality of the issue and as a testimony to knowing how to reform itself.
