Alfa Castaldi (Milan 1926 – 1995) was a leading figure in Italian photography. In the early 1950s he lived the Bar Jamaica period intensely, and with Ugo Mulas and Mario Dondero he documented the rebirth of Milanese and Italian cultural life, as well as new forms of pictorial expression, writers, and journalism. In 1958, he began collaborating in fashion with journalist Anna Piaggi and together they would land at Vogue while maintaining collaborations with weeklies such as Panorama and Espresso. He was the author of two photographic books on Italian fashion: I mass-moda with texts by Adriana Mulassano (ed. G. Spinelli & C. Firenze 1979), and L'Italia della Moda with texts by Silvia Giacomoni (Gabriele Mazzotta Editore, Milano 1984).
