Dialogo Terzo: IN A LANDSCAPE
Alessandro Sciarroni
CollettivO CineticO
The title is borrowed from a 1948 score by John Cage, In a Landscape, composed for piano or harp “to sober and quiet the mind, thus rendering it susceptible to divine influences”. The multi-award-winning Italian artist Alessandro Sciarroni – 2019 Venice Biennale Golden Lion – accepts CollettivO CineticO’s invitation to collaborate on a new creation. As in his previous work, the new piece revolves around an insistence on repetition. Yet, beside the patience and effort required by performing reiterative patterns, a new quality emerges, which eludes definition. Determination seems to lead to disappearance, to a voluntary extinction of the subject. The dance embodies an extreme act of love and, as in John Cage’s music, becomes a bridge to the sublime.
Alessandro Sciarroni is Triennale Milano Teatro’s Associate Artist for the period 2022-2024. His creations are presented in the context of contemporary dance and theatre festivals, museums and art galleries, as well as in unconventional spaces. They are created through the involvement of collaborators from a range of disciplines. Among his numerous awards, in 2019 Sciarroni was bestowed the Venice Biennale Golden Lion for his dance career. Through the repetition of a practice to the limit of the performers’ physical endurance, his works aim to expose the obsessions, fears and fragility of the act of performance.
CollettivO CineticO was founded in founded in 2007 by the choreographer Francesca Pennini in collaboration with more than 50 artists from different disciplines. Their work interrogates the nature of the performative event, devising formats which are both playful and rigorous and operate across dance, theatre and the visual arts. So far, the group has created 60 productions and received several awards.
