Elogio della vita a rovescio
Daria Deflorian
This new work by Daria Deflorian – Triennale Milano Teatro’s associate artist –, entitled Elogio della vita a rovescio / Tre storie (‘In praise of an inverted life / Three stories’), focuses on the relationship between sisters: one of the themes explored extensively by South Korean writer Han Kang. In her books, the potency of this relationship is revealed through a different plot every time.
On stage we see only the sister who thinks she has made it, the one who “since she was a little girl had that strength of character necessary to get ahead in life”. The osmosis between the two sisters is a ceaseless flow, and praising an inverted way of life is recognizing that the other, the sister, the odd one, the one who pegged out, the one who left us or is leaving us, has gone, and did what she did also for us.
Daria Deflorian is an actress, author and director. She won the 2012 Ubu Award for best actress and in 2013 she was awarded the Hystrio Prize. After years of solo productions, since 2008 she has worked on projects with Antonio Tagliarini. Their shows, which tour Italy and Europe, have won many awards: Ubu Award for best script in 2014, Best Foreign Play in Canada in 2015, Riccione Prize for dramaturgy in 2019, Hystrio Prize for dramaturgy in 2021. Their scripts are published by Titivillus, Cue Press and Sossella Editore.
