First Love

Marco D’Agostin

June 15 2021, 5.30pm

Running time 45’

First Love is an autobiographical solo by the young choreographer Marco D’Agostin; it is inspired by cross-country skiing, his first love as a young boy, and its idol: the Italian champion Stefania Belmondo, gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Marco’s dreams as a child, shared between his passion for dance and his love for skiing, overlap with the reconstruction of the race’s commentary. The private narrative, fleeting and nostalgic, combines with the heroic retelling of the sport event. Interpreting memories of a well-known condition, that of being in love for the first time, and merging them with the competitive atmosphere of the race, D’Agostin constructs an intimate story of poignant beauty where body and voice interact to compose a new and unusual grammar, both urgent and delicately poetic.

Marco D’Agostin is a dance maker and performer. He has collaborated as a performer with Claudia Castellucci, Alessandro Sciarroni, Liz Santoro, Sotterraneo, among others. Since 2010 he has developed his choreographic research during residencies in several international projects. He has presented his works in the context of renowned festivals, both in Italy and in Europe. He won the 2010 prize Gd’A Veneto, a special nomination at Premio Scenario 2011, the 2012 Premio Prospettiva Danza, the Teatro Libero di Palermo Prize at BEFestival and the second prize of the (Re)connaissance competition in Grénoble in 2017 with the work Everything is ok. He was selected twice as a Priority Company at Aerowaves and in 2018 he won the Ubu Prize for Best Performance Under 35.
