Klub Taiga – Dear Darkness
Industria Indipendente
Running time 75’
After its debut at the Venice Theatre Biennale, Industria Indipendente presents in Milan an immersive performance, an experience that engages the primordial side of our soul. Klub Taiga is an open space, a diffused landscape that defies definitions of genre and spatio-temporal categories. From thick fog, a setting emerges, inhabited by objects from a long-gone time: a meticulous arrangement of rugs, shawls, sofas, engraved stools, trays, laps, candlesticks. The space of the club alludes to counterculture, to a place in which apparitions become possible. In the dark nothing ever happens in a single place; inside the music, bodies fuse with each other; light changes move and transform words, song and movement. The taiga evokes an inhospitable, undesirable environment – the opposite of the tropical paradise of many people’s dreams. From these images, the possibility of new forms of life emerges. A dreamlike and shamanic performance that surrounds and captures the spectator.
Industria Indipendente is a performance and visual art research collective founded in 2005 by Erika Z. Galli and Martina Ruggeri. Their creative process moves across different artistic languages and practices, searching for expressive affinities and shared perspectives. Among their performances and dramaturgies are: È tutta colpa delle madri (2014), Supernova (2014 – Hystrio prize), I ragazzi del Cavalcavia (2015), Ho tanti affanni in petto (2015), Lucifer (2017), Aminta (2017 – directed by Brinchi/Spanò), Lullaby (2019). Industria Indipendente has also created hybrid environments and formats, including: Dunno_analoghìa superpower (2018), Attika (2019) and Merende, a site-specific and immersive space founded on the idea of sharing and gift, hosted by Angelo Mai cultural centre in Rome since 2018. The collective has taken part in international festivals such as: Romaeuropa Festival (Rome), Tramedautore (Milan), Short Theatre (Rome), Tropici (Rome), ActOral (Marseille), the Biennale (Venice), Contemporanea (Prato), Matera2019 European Capital of Culture.
