Kor’sia
Running time 60’
In a back-and-forth between past and present, the collective Kor’sia interprets big dance classics in a contemporary vein. On a tennis court, dancers wearing shorts and holding rackets adapt for today’s audience Jeux, a ballet choreographed by Nijinsky at the beginning of the twentieth century. Far from aiming to reproduce or recreate the work, but rather wishing to bring two distant eras close together on a joint timeline, Kor’sia borrows from Nijinsky and innovates through the lens of today, using electronic beats that approximate the rhythms of Russian dance, and fusing classical and contemporary dance, so as to reveal the historical work’s potential to be brought back to life. Kor’sia, recipient of the 2023 Fedora Prize, is recognized as one of today’s most renowned international companies.
Antonio de Rosa and Mattia Russo are the choreographers and artistic directors of the group Kor’sia, which is based on the creation of artistic devices that find their epicenter in the body and movement. Together as choreographers, they have created ballets for the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), Hessisches Staatstheater, Luzerner Theater, National Dance Company of Madrid, Bern Ballet. In January 2015, they created the Kor’sia collective in Madrid with researcher Giuseppe Dagostino and performing arts teacher and artistic consultant Agnes Lopez Rio.
