La vegetariana
Daria Deflorian
Running time 110'
Considered one of the most original voices in Italian and European theater, Daria Deflorian brings to the stage the mysterious story of Yeong-hye, the main character in The Vegetarian, the novel that brought the South Korean writer Han Kang - Nobel prize for Literature 2024 - to the awareness of the Italian public. It is a novel full of powerful images and disturbing questions: the radical refusal of a woman who chooses not to eat meat any longer sets off a gradual process of metamorphosis. As Yeong-hye changes, seeking to become plant-like herself, the whole world that surrounds her is affected by the impact of her transformation. Humanity is harmful, murderous, violent, all the things that Yeong-hye doesn’t want to be. She doesn’t want to stop living. She wants to stop living like us.
