Xing presents the new LP L’altro Hotel by Michele Di Stefano — choreographer, performer and founder of mk — nineteenth release of XONG collection - artist records. Voce Triennale hosts a sound performance, listening session, and a talk with Silvia Fanti, co-founder and director of Xing, and Umberto Angelini, artistic director of Triennale Milano Teatro.

The album brings together fragments from a vast collection of voice memos collected by the artist from around the world as a catalogue of localized sounds, precise moments of personal experience. The processing of the album consisted in converting these diaristic recordings into pieces inspired by phantom theories on non-selective listening. The result is an escape from field recording and travel literature, arriving at a more complex territory, where fiction and reality conspire. For this occasion, Michele Di Stefano — as host of a hypothetical radio program now in its fiftieth episode — presents live the collection of “situated” music tracks of L’altro Hotel, weaving in creative anecdotes, recording techniques and ethnomusicological fantasies. The hits of unlikely artists are intertwined with a mix of atmospheres, landscapes, perspectives that connect Tunis to the Parisian Marais, the Reserva Nacional Tambopata in Peru to the trams of Rome and the rivers of Botswana. Through these highly believable “fake news,” Di Stefano lays out a 360-degree vision of art-making.

Michele Di Stefano is a choreographer, performer and founder of mk, a group active in the international scene since 2000 with a vast corpus of shows, choreographic environments and evolutionary systems based on dynamic research, travel literature, sound and meteorology. Central figure of Italian dance, he is considered an explorer that constantly redefines the relationship between individual projects and the general horizon of movements. Besides live performances, he has an intense activity of lecturing, workshops and experimental proposals. He was associated artist at the Teatro di Roma (2020-21) with the project Oceano Indiano, and at Triennale Milano (2022-24). He has received numerous awards for his activity (Silver Lion for innovation in dance at the Venice Biennale 2014, Ubu Award 2019, Danza&Danza Award 2018 and 2020, Ubu Special Award 2021) and choreographic commissions from Aterballetto, Korean National Contemporary Dance Company, Nuovo Balletto di Toscana and the Ballet de Lorraine. Since 2025 he is part of the curatorial team of Short Theatre Festival in Rome.

Xong is the name of the collection produced by Xing, a vinyl-only record label of works by both Italian and international personalities linked to the variegated worlds of live performativity. The collection explores a geography of artists who present this sonic field as a platform to expand their staged worlds. Xong is a unique project that draws out divergent understandings of the performative and live arts, beyond genre and intersecting between different practices.

Xing is a cultural organization based in Bologna, Italy, operating with the purpose of planning, supporting and promoting products and events characterized by an interdisciplinary approach toward the issues of contemporary culture.
