Les baigneurs
Clédat & Petitpierre
The inventive duo of visual artists and choreographers Clédat & Petitpierre presents in Italian premiere Les baigneurs (“The bathers”), inspired by a subject often found in modern paintings. Between installation and performance, the work features two life-size dolls in striped bathing suits, relaxing, playing or interacting as if they were on a beach – complete with two turquoise towels and a yellow ball. Their movements are slow, matching the soft appearance of the dolls’ texture, which is made entirely of pleated tulle. Whimsical and visionary, the work plays with simple gestures and rituals and turns them into a sculptural celebration of the everyday – a poetic evocation of love and idleness.
The inseparable artistic duo Yvan Clédat and Coco Petitpierre met in 1986. Sculptors, performers and directors, they question the space of the gallery and of the theatre through a multifaceted work which is also full of humour, through the way in which the bodies of the two artists are regularly put into play. Their works are presented in art centres, museums, festivals or theatres, in France and internationally.
