Talk

Sally Gabori Night

February 16 2023, 5.00pm

The talk is held in English.

An exclusive evening dedicated to Australian Aboriginal artist Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori for the launch of her solo exhibition, in the presence of family and specialists of her artwork. We welcome, along with Fondation Cartier, Amanda Gabori Dibirdibi and Tori Juwarnda Wilson (Sally Gabori's daughter and great-granddaughter respectively), Bruce Johnson McLean (Barbara Jean Humphreys Assistant Director, First Nations and Head Curator, First Nations Art, National Gallery of Australia, Sally Gabori specialist) and Juliette Lecorne (Curator, Fondation Cartier) to pay tribute to the artist.

Among Australia's greatest contemporary artists, Sally Gabori began painting in 2005, in her eighties, and has achieved international fame. She has developed a unique body of work characterized by vibrant colors that has no apparent ties to other aesthetic currents, particularly within contemporary Aboriginal painting. The exhibition, which brings together some 30 monumental paintings from European and Australian public and private collections, is organized with the artist's family and the Kaiadilt community.
