nothing deeper

Setting out from a feminist, embodied, and intersectional perspective, Elena Rivoltini gives voice to the voiceless, that is, to the phonatory processes that precede and enable vocal emission. In nothing deeper, the “support” techniques of opera singing, laryngeal mechanisms, diaphragmatic breathing, intercostal movements, and semi-voluntary organs are amplified in a field recording of the inner anatomical landscape and collective listening. A mysterious and surprising organ concert, an anatomical lesson subverted, an act of rebellion against the medicalization of female and marginalized bodies.
Elena Rivoltini is a performer, sound artist, and curator. A graduate of the Accademia del Piccolo Teatro in Milan, she studied renaissance and baroque singing, specializing in ancient vocal polyphony and electronic music. She explores voice, breathing, and proprioception queerizing visions and senses. She debuted as a performer for Bob Wilson and works with theaters, museums, and art institutions including Biennale Musica and Biennale Teatro in Venice, Piccolo Teatro in Milan, ERT, Teatro India and Argentina in Rome, Triennale Milano, Threes Productions, Fondazione Elpis, LAC Lugano, Festival Catalysi - Societas Raffaello Sanzio and Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles. She speaks five languages and curates an archive of endangered voices and glossolalia.
