Geopolitics of Inequalities
Forum Inequalities
The first session of the Forum Inequalities, introduced by Richard Sennett's keynote lecture, will host lectures by scholars who will address the theme of inequalities in the geopolitical perspective, referring mainly, but not only, to the world of cities, and in particular to the new meaning that the two opposing terms of “wealth” and “poverty” have assumed today in the different spheres of urban life. The discussion will encourage reflection on the new dialectic between wealth and poverty and on the surprising, and sometimes paradoxical, forms in which it manifests itself today in the territories inhabited by our species; for example, in the coexistence of economic privilege and compromised environmental conditions, or in the coexistence of social hardship and relational well-being, or even in the intertwining of a luxury created by the exclusivity of a geographical condition and a mediocrity accompanied by a poverty of cultural exchange.
