HellO°
Kinkaleri
Running time 40’
If Othello had believed Desdemona and hadn’t listened to the lies about her betrayal, would the two lovers have escaped their tragic ending? Reversing the key motives underlying Shakespeare’s play, this performance by Kinkaleri removes power from language, stripping it of its ability to deceive, and moves the focus onto the body and its candor. HellO° centers around the dualism word-lie/body-truth, staging the tragedy of a body subservient to the rules of language. This is a tragedy that allows the spectator to observe the details of a body that can triumph in its own fragility, to appreciate its movements and its stillness. Hello° is therefore the body of the tragedy. Fragile, imposing, unique.
Kinkaleri, currently composed of Massimo Conti, Marco Mazzoni, and Gina Monaco, was born in Florence in 1995. The group operates within theatrical experimentation, performances, installations, settings, and sound materials, and has been hosted in numerous programs in Italy and abroad, in theaters and exhibition spaces. In 2002, the company was awarded the Premio Lo Straniero Scommesse per il futuro and the Ubu Awards for the show <OTTO> as the best Theatre Dance performance of the year.
