Concert

Matinée
Jessica Ekomane and Judith Hamann

October 19 2025, 9.00am

A series of acoustic and electroacoustic concerts curated by Nicola Ratti and conceived for the morning hours, when natural light is at its most intense, Matinée invites focused and intimate listening. Each event offers a different sonic experience in terms of language and references, yet all are united by a central element: the quality of listening. A listening that interacts with space, time, and light, transforming into a moment of suspension and perceptual openness.

The new event features two artists from Berlin’s contemporary scene performing at Voce: electronic musician Jessica Ekomane and composer-cellist Judith Hamann.

Jessica Ekomane is a French-born and Berlin-based electronic musician and sound artist. She creates situations where the sound acts as a transformative element for the space and the audience. Her quadraphonic performances, characterized by their physical affect, seek a cathartic effect through the interplay of psychoacoustics, the perception of rhythmic structures and the interchange of noise and melody. Her ever-changing and immersive sonic landscapes are grounded in questions such as the relationship between individual perception and collective dynamics or the investigation of listening expectations and their societal roots.

Judith Hamann is a composer/performer born in Narrm/Melbourne, and currently based in Berlin. Described as an “extraordinary Australian cellist” ("the Guardian"), and as a composer who “destroys the fiction of the musician who lives and works outside conventional parameters and puts in its place a series of compositions that are fundamentally humane” ("WIRE"), their work encompasses performance, electro-acoustic composition, site specific generative work, and micro-tonal systems in a process based creative practice.
