From an unprecedented collaboration between Triennale Milano Teatro and Pirelli HangarBicocca, born on the occasion of Bruce Nauman's exhibition Neons Corridors Rooms, comes an invitation to Meredith Monk, among the most courageous and visionary figures of performing arts today, whose artistic path first met with Nauman’s in the late 1960s. Legendary master of multidisciplinary art and pioneer in “extended vocal technique,” Meredith Monk – together with members of her Vocal Ensemble (Katie Geissinger and Allison Sniffin) – presents one of her rarest and most intimate concerts at Triennale, which reflects a sixty-year career between experimentation and innovation. A musical performance that invites the audience into enchanting and intriguing worlds, exploring the infinite possibilities of the human voice.

Born in 1942, Meredith Monk is an American composer, singer, director, choreographer, filmmaker and creator of new opera, music-theater works, films and installations. Celebrated internationally, her work has been presented at major venues throughout the world. In 1968, in San Francisco, she met Bruce Nauman, with whom she established an artistic relationship and friendship that endures to this day. Over the last six decades Meredith Monk has received numerous awards and honors including a MacArthur Fellowship, Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters from the Republic of France, induction into the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize, and a National Medal of Arts. Her music can also be heard in films by such directors as Terrence Malick, Jean-Luc Godard, David Byrne, and the Coen Brothers. Currently Meredith Monk is developing Indra’s Net, the third part of a trilogy of music-theater works exploring our interdependent relationship with nature, following the highly acclaimed On Behalf of Nature (2013) and Cellular Songs (2018).
