Piscina Mirabilis
mk – Michele Di Stefano
An experimental ambience that invites us to look for a collective connection in movement, in pure dynamic expression. Led by choreographer and performer Michele Di Stefano – winner of the Silver Lion for Dance at the Venice Biennale and associate artist of Triennale Milano Teatro –, mk is a leading company on the contemporary dance scene. With Piscina Mirabilis, the collective creates a time and space that precede any formal, planned or artistic result, in the desire to tap into an expanded community consisting of (but not limited to) dancers, actors and athletes. So the stage becomes an unexpectedly everyday place on which bodies and figures are projected in search of a possible alliance, a free co-habitation.
Co-founded in 2000 by Michele Di Stefano, the mk company carries out exploratory choreography that interrogates the ambiguity of bodily states and their alterations. The group presents its works around the world, with recent tours to Indonesia, the United States, Japan, Peru, Germany, France, Hungary, Spain and Portugal. Their latest works propose different performance formats and environments in collaboration with other artists: Veduta (2016-17) is an immersive performance that explores the urban landscape; Bermudas (2017-18, Danza&Danza Award for the best Italian production and 2019 Ubu Award) is a choreographic system for a varying and interchangeable number of dancers that develops the idea of a perpetual motion regulated by an organic order; Parete Nord, dedicated to the mountains, is an international project co-produced with Torinodanza 2018; EDEN (Danza&Danza Special Prize) was commissioned by the 2020 Bolzano Danza/Tanz Bozen festival with choreography by Carolyn Carlson, Michele Di Stefano and Rachid Ouramdane; maqam (2021) was commissioned by RING, a prototype for a cooperation involving the Bolzano Danza/Tanz Bozen, Aperto Reggio Emilia, Torinodanza and FOG festivals. In 2014 Michele Di Stefano was awarded the Silver Lion for dance at the Venice Biennale.
