To the rythm of reworked samples, Samir Laghouati-Rashwan's hard-hitting lyrics collide with Trésor's sturdy dance moves, choreagraphed to the point of desintegration. Inscribed in the world of gaming, the performance On vous voit question the projection of stereotypes and their consequences for people whose identities are essentialized. Faced with the violence of objectifying word and gazes, the dodging gestures of sturdy are an emancipatory and restorative means of reappropriating body and identity.
Born in 1992, Samir Laghouati-Rashwan (lives and works in Marseille, FR) is a French-Moroccan-Egyptian artist and performer. He is a graduate from Marseille-Méditerranée National Higher Institute for Artistic Education - INSEAMM in 2020. He creates narratives from archival work, using media such as film, photography and sculpture. His work explores the politics of space and bodies, with a particular focus on representations of the Other, the body and race in mediated cultural productions and institutional art spaces. With a tone that oscillates between amusement and vulnerability, he traces marginalized or forgotten histories and explores geographical displacement and linguistic reappropriation as testimony to systems of domination. His installations are characterized by fluorescent and acid colors, creating situations both realistic and phantasmagorical. Laghouati-Rashwan has been exhibited and performed internationally.
