The works of Seçkin Pirim, often made with resin, paper, aluminium, glass or marble, explore form, color and the reiteration of formal models. Embracing the challenge of working in diverse media, the artist analyzes the relationship between work and space, the dichotomy between nature and culture and the boundaries between art and design. Although Pirim cannot be categorized as a direct representative of Optical Art, certain aspects of his work can be related to principles concerning viewers’ spatial perception, especially considering the artist’s use of repeated geometric forms, translucent materials and play of light in his work. His minimalist sculptures combine computer-generated elements with others made by hand, fuelling a far-ranging dialogue between technology and craftsmanship. The exhibition is spread among the various indoor and outdoor Triennale spaces, which host a selection of Pirim’s unpublished or particularly representative works.

Seçkin Pirim was born in 1977 in Istanbul, where he graduated in sculpture from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He lives and works between Istanbul and London and has participated in numerous exhibitions, both collective and solo, and won various sculpture and design awards. His most recent exhibitions include Relics, Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum, Istanbul (2023); Retreat, Dirimart, Istanbul (2022); Floating Islands, Istanbul Modern, Istanbul (2023) and Rock, Paper, Scissors, C24 Gallery, New York (2019).
