Deflorian/Tagliarini

The creators of some of the most interesting theatrical poetics on the European panorama, Daria Deflorian and Antonio Tagliarini – Triennale Milano Teatro’s associate artists – return to the Triennale with a work that engages with the dreamlike cinema of Federico Fellini. A show somewhere between fiction and biography, freely inspired by the film Ginger and Fred (1986), in which Giulietta Masina and Marcello Mastroianni play two artists famous for their imitations of the Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire couple. A melancholic metanarrative takes shape on stage: a gentle reflection – under the spotlights – on fragility and the passing of the years. As they lay themselves bare to the audience, the Deflorian/Tagliarini pair re-evoke all the magic of of this great film director.

Daria Deflorian and Antonio Tagliarini are writers, directors and performers. They have been creating projects, shows and site-specific events since 2008, redesigning the essence of being a performer on stage, always poised between personal memory and the collective imagination, autobiography and dreams. The first work to come from this collaboration was Rewind, a homage to Pina Bausch's Café Müller. Between 2010 and 2011 they worked on the Reality project, which led to the installation/performance czeczy/cose (2011) and the stage show Reality (2012), for which Deflorian won the Ubu Award for best actress. Ce ne andiamo per non darvi altre preoccupazioni (2013) was awarded the Ubu Award for best new Italian stage play, as well as the Canadian Critics' award for best foreign production. The pair have created two site-specific works: Il posto (2014) and Quando non so cosa fare cosa faccio (2015). In 2017, Deflorian and Tagliarini started working on the Antonioni/Deserto Rosso project. 2020 saw the debut of their stage adaptation of the book Who killed my father, by Edouard Louis.
