Susanne Kennedy in dialogue with Romeo Castellucci
In relation to the virtual reality installation I AM by Susanne Kennedy (presented at FOG), the artist – one of the most original on the world scene – talks with Romeo Castellucci, Grand Invité of Triennale Milano for the four-year period 2021-2024. A comparison on the new frontiers of contemporary theater, on its limits and boundaries, human and digital.
Susanne Kennedy studied direction at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Amsterdam and debuted on the Dutch stage. In 2011 she was invited to work at the Münchner Kammerspiele. ForFegefeuer in Ingolstadtshe was voted Young Director of the Year by Theater Heute Magazine in 2013. In recent years she has been based at Volksbühne Berlin and Münchner Kammerspiele. She has producedUltraworldandOraclewith Markus Selg in 2020. In her works, distorted by masks, playback dialogue, doppelgängers and multimedia, the actors confront the audience with a question: what does it mean to be human?
Romeo Castellucci is a world-renowned theatre director, artist and designer celebrated for his creative work that encompasses all artistic disciplines and offers the audience a comprehensive experience. Castellucci’s pieces are regularly staged and produced by the most prestigious international venues and festivals. He directed the Theatre Section of the Venice Biennale, was Artiste Associé at the Avignon Festival and is currently Grand Invité at Triennale Milano as well as guest director at Berlin’s Schaubhüne. He has been bestowed with the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the Ministry of Culture of the French Republic and with an honorary degree by the University of Bologna; he is a member of the Académie Royale de Belgique and has been awarded, among other international prizes, the Golden Lion at Venice Biennale and two Golden Masks for his opera pieces.
