A ringdown is the sound made by two black holes as they merge, rather like the greatest synthesizer imaginable. This idea helped inspire a new collaboration featuring Pulitzer Prize and multiple Grammy Award-winning composer and musician extraordinaire Caroline Shaw, and dynamic multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Danni Lee Parpan. Ringdown is a world of sound never heard before. The cinematic electro-pop duo presents an “ecstatically blissful” (Night After Night) and “irresistible” (Feast of Music) concert in which the music, falling somewhere between Brahms and Brandi Carlile, explores the spaces between different genres, challenging their boundaries and styles. A joyful hymn to human connections and love that invites us to listen deeply.
Caroline Shaw is a musician and composer who moves between roles, genres, and mediums. She is the winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Music, several Grammys, and has received an honorary doctorate from Yale. She has written the scores for numerous films and TV series, including Beyonce’s Homecoming and Ken Burns’ documentary Leonardo da Vinci.
Danni Lee Parpan is a multi-instrumentalist and folk-pop singer-songwriter who writes emotionally stirring lyrics and likes to challenge conventions about how instruments “should” be played. Her performances combine a touch of stand-up comedy with evocative live music.
