Relatos Chicha
By transforming lettering into a tool of resistance and collective pride, the artist Elliot Tupac brings oral and artisanal traditions into the contemporary. Heir to the artisanal tradition of the poster-makers of Huancayo, he tells part of the story of Lima’s informal settlements, following with a personal gaze the birth of Chicha culture: a collective identity that emerged in the 1980s from the migration of millions of people from the provinces to the capital in search of new opportunities.
