The Space of Inequalities: Environment, Mobility, Citizenship
Free admission
At the introduction of the pavilions, the contribution of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at Politecnico di Milano structures three thematic insights to create a collective narrative and interpretation from a territorial perspective: the different impacts of extreme climatic events and prolonged exposure to harmful health conditions; the varying opportunities for access to resources and mobility restrictions; and the lack of full citizenship rights due to exclusion from housing and services. These themes are addressed at two different scales and through two different types of materials. The scales include, on the one hand, the global level, examining how different types of inequalities manifest on a planetary scale, and on the other, the city of Milan, where these issues are analyzed through the lens of georeferenced data. The materials consist, on one side, of short documentary videos that provide insights into environmental issues, mobility/migration, and access to housing and services on a global scale, creatively animating images, illustrations, drawings, and sounds alongside the words of international experts working in cities worldwide. On the other side, a physical model of the Milan metropolitan area serves as a projection surface for information on how these same issues unfold in our city.
