The Republic of Longevity
In Health Equality We Trust

The irreversibility of the contemporary demographic phenomenon, driven by the collapse in birth rates and the lengthening of life expectancy, serves as the starting point for an in depth analysis of the society of longevity. Within this context, the major theme of inequalities in the ageing process will be at the heart of the exhibition curated by Nic Palmarini, Director UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing, and Marco Sammicheli, Director Museo del Design Italiano of Triennale Milano. The Republic of Longevity is an exhibition that emphasizes the need for a systemic change, focusing specifically on the concept of the malleability of ageing. Actions and solutions with tangible impacts will open up reflections on methodologies that can be applied on a large scale, with the aim of ensuring horizontal accessibility.

The exhibition will be divided into five key dimensions that promote healthy ageing: eating and drinking healthily, sleeping well, staying active, keeping the mind engaged and supported by a purpose, and cultivating meaningful social connections. Contemporary design projects, artworks, publications, communication campaigns, data, and scientific analysis will transform actions that may only seem ordinary into heroic behaviors, contributing to the achievement of health equity. The exhibition’s display, designed by Sopa Design Studio, will guide visitors through an exploration of the fundamental role that behavioral and social aspects play in preventing age-related diseases. These aspects serve as effective tools to reduce the incidence of illnesses that accompany ageing, as well as the social and financial pressures created by an unhealthy population. This thought-provoking and ideal city aims to stimulate reflections, showcase best practices and raise important questions.
