Data Visualization by Federica Fragapane
Shapes of Inequalities
Free admission
The many facets of inequality are explored through data visualization. Each representation results from a design process grounded in the understanding that neither data nor visualizations are neutral; both are shaped by research, interpretation, and human actions. The topics addressed are not treated as flat, two-dimensional images, but as layered subjects with numerous, often hidden, angles. The project brings some of these to light, making them visible through visualization. The shapes that emerge reveal the deep asymmetries, distances, and differences in scale that the data exposes. As in spoken and written language, data visualization encompasses multiple expressive possibilities. The visual vocabulary can be sharp and technical, or it can outline complex themes with a softer line. The project embraces this latter approach, representing data that carries a living presence—the people and beings to whom the data is connected. It is an attempt to represent this pulsating and sometimes barely visible presence with organic forms.
