Lesotho
Lesotho Water Realms. A visual research on geopolitics, society and rituals

When we think of sub-Saharan Africa we often form a fairly well defined collective image. With its quite small surface however, Lesotho displays a variety of landscape that tackles any naturalistic african cliché.
What defines this  landscape?
What are the limits between human intervention and the nature of its plateaus?

Lesotho Water Realms. A visual research on geopolitics, society and rituals observes Lesotho through the bodies of water that cross its soil, considering water as the center of the land’s identity, visible yet not accessible to everyone. The project offers the visitor three different views over the element, considering it as part of a landscape, through the infrastructure of the dams, as a human necessity and as a immaterial value during the sacred Basotho rituals.

Each of this perspectives unfolds through a selection of iconographic materials that are meant to give the public a fragmented image of Africa and its landscapes, preventing any impulse towards uniformityand to favor an open approach on Lesotho’s story.
